Mastering Sexual Medicine is a unique and innovative hybrid course focusing on the necessary elements needed for healthcare providers to provide high-quality sexual medicine within a clinical setting. While this course focuses on the advanced practice provider, all are welcome to participate. This course will involve 6 two-hour monthly virtual webinars from May 2023 to October 2023, followed by an in-person hands-on training at the Annual SMSNA Fall Meeting on Saturday, November 18, 2023. Participants must complete the 6 virtual courses in order to participate in the hands-on course. Each webinar will be led by top-notch experts in the field of sexual medicine, engaging participants on fundamental topics relevant to the field of sexual medicine, including cutting-edge medical advances and ideas to optimize whole-person sexual care. A certificate of completion will be awarded to those that complete the full virtual portion as well as the hands-on training.

Course Learning Objections:
1. Learn the fundamentals of the most common sexual medicine concerns.
2. Assess the patient presentation and develop a diagnosis.
3. Implement a treatment plan to optimize sexual functioning.

MALE HYPOGONADISM
Course Learning Objectives:

  1. Define and differentiate primary and secondary hypogonadism.
  2. Understand the hypothalamic pituitary gonadal axis.
  3. Implementation of treatment for testosterone replacement therapy.
  4. Discuss special topics including fertility, prostate cancer, and benign prostatic hyperplasia.
  5. Highlight new and innovative therapies for male hypogonadism.

ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION
Course Learning Objectives:

  1. Define erectile dysfunction and differentiate the etiologies of erectile dysfunction, including biopsychosocial influences.
  2. Understand normal anatomy and physiology of erections and the pathophysiology of erectile dysfunction.
  3. Develop a treatment plan for erectile dysfunction, including pharmacotherapies, penile rehabilitation program, and referrals.
  4. Discuss special topics including prostate cancer, delayed ejaculation, premature ejaculation.
  5. Highlight regenerative therapies for erectile dysfunction.

PEYRONIE’S DISEASE
Course Learning Objectives:

  1. Outline the prevalence, risk factors, and pathophysiology of Peyronie’s Disease.
  2. Identify the different phases of Peyronie’s Disease and how this impacts treatment decisions.
  3. Understand the evaluation and management of Peyronie’s Disease including non-surgical and surgical interventions.
  4. Discuss special topics including mental health impact, partner support, utilization of other healthcare providers to optimize Peyronie’s management, and novel treatment options.

DECREASED SEXUAL DESIRE
Course Learning Objectives:

  1. Define decreased sexual desire including prevalence and biopsychosocial factors.
  2. Understand the evaluation and diagnosis of decreased sexual desire.
  3. Differentiate spontaneous desire versus responsive desire.
  4. Discuss female sexual interest and arousal disorder (FSIAD).
  5. Identify excitatory and inhibitory influences on sexual desire.
  6. Describe a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment and management of patients with decreased sexual desire.

FEMALE SEXUAL HEALTH CONCERNS
Course Learning Objectives:

  1. Define female sexual health concerns including prevalence and biopsychosocial factors.
  2. Identify female life stages that impact sexual functioning including the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, peri/menopause, and postmenopause.
  3. Discuss female genitopelvic pain syndromes and its impact on sexual functioning.
  4. Evaluate sociocultural influences and trauma as it relates to female sexual health.
  5. Understanding treatment approaches to female sexual health as it differentiates from male sexual health.

INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE FOR SEXUAL HEALTH
Course Learning Objectives:

  1. Define integrative medicine and its role within sexual health.
  2. Discuss special topics including nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress, microbiome, mental health, and gut health.
  3. Describe alternative and complementary modalities used to optimize sexual functioning.
  4. Identify key multidisciplinary providers used in integrative medicine approaches for whole-person sexual healing and wellness.
