The purposes of the SMSNA are to promote, encourage and support the highest standards of practice, research, education, and ethics in the study of the anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of human sexual function and dysfunction. We endeavor to provide a forum for the free exchange and discussion of new ideas and concepts in sexual medicine.
The SMSNA Board of Directors shares the concerns of our members and patients regarding racial inequalities existing in society. We recognize the obligation to foster a diverse and inclusive environment within our association.
The SMSNA affirms that as an organization of clinicians, researchers, and educators we must be focused on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. We must be vigilant about not only preserving the rights of patients to sexual orientation, but also ensuring adequate access to high quality, equitable care. We must be dedicated to ensuring that research on sexuality and care of patients addresses race, ethnicity, and sexual orientation. We must promote access to high quality, equitable care. Our researchers, educators and providers have for 30 years focused on the care of cisgender patients. Our community recognizes the need to embrace the care of transgender and gender non-conforming patients. SMSNA recognizes the importance of promoting sexual health, and research in gender diverse populations, and how such research can contribute to the advancing the care of all patients.
